COVID-19 Vaccine Information

  • Infants (6 months) - Toddlers must register for a vaccination clinic that offers the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine and be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian.

    Pediatric Pfizer (6 months – 4 years old):
    - 3-dose series (second primary dose given 3-8 weeks after first primary dose, third primary dose given at least 8 weeks after second primary dose)

    Pediatric Moderna (6 months – 5 years old):
    - 2-dose series (two primary doses, 4-8 weeks apart. A booster is not recommended at this time for children in this age group who have received the Moderna primary series)

    Pfizer:

  • Pfizer:
    2-dose series (second primary dose given 3-8 weeks after first primary dose, a booster dose given at least 5 months after second primary dose)

  • A second booster dose can be given for adults ages 50 years and older at least 4 months after the 1st booster

  • Moderna:
    2-dose series (second primary dose given 4-8 weeks after first primary dose. A booster dose given at least 5 months after second primary dose)

  • A second booster dose can be given for adults ages 50 years and older at least 4 months after the 1st booster

  • Novavax:
    2-dose series (second primary dose given 3-8 weeks after first primary dose. A booster dose is not currently authorized at this time)

    Johnson & Johnson:
    1-dose series (a booster dose given at least 2 months after the first primary dose. A 2nd booster dose given at least 4 months after the 1st booster has been received)

    A Pfizer booster dose is recommended if you:

    • Received your second dose at least 5 months ago, and
    • Are age 5 or older
    • Individuals who are 50 years and older may receive a 2nd mRNA booster dose 4 months after their 1st booster dose.
    • Individuals who are 12 years + with moderate to severe immunocompromise may receive a 2nd booster dose of Pfizer vaccine 4 months after their 1st booster.
    • Individuals 18+ who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months ago may now receive a second booster dose using an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

    A second Pfizer booster dose is recommended if you:

    • Individuals who might consider a booster dose who are at least 4 months from their first booster, 12+ years old (Pfizer)/18+ years old (Moderna) AND:
      • Have a health history that makes them more likely to get severe COVID illness OR
      • Have occupational risk, institutional or congregate living risk or caring for someone in an institutional or congregate setting OR
      • Have frequent travels or large gatherings OR
      • Live or work in an area with medium to high COVID-19 community levels OR (*note Riverside County is in medium risk currently) OR
      • Living with someone who is unvaccinated

    A Moderna booster dose is recommended if you:

    • Received your second dose at least 5 months ago, and
    • Are age 18 or older

    A Johnson & Johnson booster dose is recommended if you:

    • Received your first dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine at least 2 months ago, and
    • Are age 18 or older
    • Individuals 18+ who received a primary vaccine and booster dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine at least 4 months ago may now receive a second booster dose using an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.

    The CDC recommends a third vaccine dose for certain groups of people with weakened immune systems who received either the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. Some examples include:

    • Receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
    • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
    • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
    • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency
    • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
    • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
