Cal-Learn

Cal-Learn is a mandatory program for Cal Works participants who receive cash assistance and are under 19 years of age, are pregnant or parenting, and have not complete their high school education. The program requires participants to enroll in educational programs necessary to earn a high school diploma or its equivalent. The focus of Cal-Learn is to provide teens with the support they need to complete their high school education. Case Mangers are sensitive to and aware of teen parent issues.

Services Provided:

  • Supportive, teen parent centered, culturally appropriate, goal oriented case management
  • On-going assessment of needs, referrals and linkage to community based health educational and social services.
  • Encouragement and Monitoring of schools performance and attendance
  • Administering incentives. Cal-Learn provides monetary incentives and disincentives.

Referrals/Enrollment:

The Cal-Learn program is a mandatory entitlement program for teens who receive cash aide. Referrals can only be made by the Department of Public Social Services (DPSS). If you believe you qualify, please consult your Eligibility Technician.
