What is the Black Infant Health Program?

The Black infant Health Program can help you with the following needs:
*Help you apply for Medi-Cal
*Refer you to a Doctor or Physician group
*Refer you to WIC (a nutritional health program)
*Refer you to Public Health Programs for:
~ Substance abuse (alcohol and drug cessation programs)
~ Family Planning
~ Tobacco Free Families Program
~ Lead Free Program
~ Dental Health Information Program

What can you do to lower the high infant death rate?

BIH*See your doctor or health care provider as soon as you think you are pregnant

*Keep all your appointments throughout your pregnancy:
    ~  Eat 5 fruits and vegetables daily
    ~ Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily
    ~ Eat foods rich in folic acid such as leafy vegetables like collard greens


*Healthy lifestyle:
    ~ Good nutrition
    ~ Find a relaxing activity or place to practice relaxation
    ~ Minimize stress
    ~Don't smoke, drink, or take drugs
    ~ Attend child birth classes

Call you doctor right away if you experience any of the following:
~ Decrease in your baby's movement
~ Blurred vision, flashes of light
~ Spots before your eyes
~Severe persistent headaches
~ Change in urination habits
~ Pains in your stomach or pressure in lower abdomen
~ Vaginal bleeding and spotting
~ Sudden gush of water from the vagina

The Mission of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health

To improve the health status of all women, infants, children and adolescents, by assuring access to quality services, particularly those services that reduce the incidence of low birth weight and premature delivery, reduce maternal and infant mortality, and reduce the incidence of preventable diseases and disabling conditions among children.
