Press Release: Board of Supervisors names new director for Riverside County Health Agency, County Public Health Officer
The County Health Officer is appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to enforce County ordinances and State and Federal statutes pertaining to public health and sanitary matters within the unincorporated areas of the county and within all of the cities in Riverside County.
Eric Frykman, MD, MPH, MBA joined the Riverside Community Health Agency as Director and Public Health Officer in February 2007. Previously he was the Health Officer for San Bernardino County Department of Public Health from March 2004 and served as Interim Public Health Director since July 2006. He also served as Chief of Disease Control & Prevention since June 2001.
Dr. Frykman obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in bio-chemistry from Loma Linda University Medical Center in 1992; his doctor of medicine degree from Loma Linda in 1996; a master's degree in public health, with an emphasis in international health in 1999 from Loma Linda; and a master's degree in business administration from Claremont Graduate University in 2004. Dr. Frykman is board certified in public health and general preventive medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine.
He continues to be involved in many community-based activities to improve the health of various communities and, as part of a team, develops local response plans for bioterrorism and the local prevention of further threats to public health. During the Kosovo conflict in 1999, he and his wife volunteered to help the refugees in Macedonia. He has worked in Bangladesh, Mexico, and Russia as well.
He and his wife Ayme have five delightful children.
