What is Teeth Are Us?
"Teeth Are Us" is a school-based program aimed at preventing dental disease, a problem affecting 95% of school children.

What is the goal of Teeth Are Us?

The goal of "Teeth Are Us' is to reduce the incidence of dental disease among elementary school children by:
bullet Teaching students the causes of dental disease, correct brushing and flossing techniques, use of fluoride for stronger teeth and fewer cavities, and healthy food choices
bullet Promoting positive attitudes and behaviors toward dental health and wellness
bullet Developing students' personal preventive habits
bullet Emphasizing personal responsibility for ones own health
bullet Educating parents in proper preventive oral care at home for themselves as well as their children

What does Teeth Are Us provide?

bullet In-service training programs for teachers and school nurses
bullet Dental supplies: toothbrushes, dental floss, and fluoride mouthrinse
bullet Classroom visit by dental health educators
bullet Supplemental curriculum and resource materials

Who is eligible for Teeth Are Us?

Teeth Are Us" is a voluntary program available to public schools in Riverside County from kindergarten through sixth grade.

Who should get involved in Teeth Are Us?

bullet Teachers
• By teaching and promoting oral health as part of total health
By becoming role models
By integrating dental health education into other subjects (math, reading, spelling, music)
By attending an in-service
By administering fluoride mouthrinse
By supervising brushing and flossing in the classroom

bullet School Nurses
• By coordinating dental health with the total health program
• By promoting the program at schools
• By assisting with the mixing of fluoride mouthrinse

bullet Parents
By giving permission for their children to participate
By following up on information and schools taught at school
By serving on advisory Committees
bullet Dental Professionals
By assisting in dental screening of students
By being on Advisory Committees
