As part of the
2008
General Plan 5-Year Review and Update Project,
Riverside County is proposing a new optional Element to its General Plan,
the Healthy Communities Element.
The Draft Healthy Communities Element of the General Plan is now available for public review.
The Draft Healthy Communities Element was developed with the efforts of
the Healthy Community Working Group and County Staff,
lead by Sandy Jackson of the County’s Department of Public Health,
with assistance from Raimi + Associates.
The Healthy Communities Element will be an optional Element
to the Riverside County General Plan.
The Element provides a framework for translating the General Plan vision
for a healthy Riverside County into reality,
along with strategies, policies and implementation actions to achieve that vision.
This Healthy Communities Element addresses the major intersections of public health and planning,
including transportation and active living, access to nutritious foods, access to health care,
mental health, quality of life, and environmental health.
